World Class EDA Tools Optimized for New Altera Architectures and Quartus II Development Software
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 29, 2001--Altera
Corporation (Nasdaq:ALTR), a leading programmable logic device (PLD)
supplier, today announced the availability of synthesis and simulation
tools from world-class 3rd party EDA vendors that now support Altera's
newest architectures: the APEX(TM) 20KC device family and the
Excalibur(TM) embedded processor solutions which incorporate the
ARM®-based and MIPS®-based embedded processor cores. These new
versions of 3rd party EDA tools provided by Mentor Graphics,
Synplicity, and Synopsys are optimized to work seamlessly with
Altera's recently announced Quartus II development software. The new
Quartus II development software establishes a new standard for PLD
software and provides designers the most advanced environment for
system-on-a-programmable-chip (SOPC) design.
``We have been working closely with our key EDA partners to include
innovative synthesis and simulation algorithms in their software to
support our device architectures especially our Excalibur embedded
processor solutions,'' said David Greenfield, Altera director of
development tools marketing. ``In addition, we have worked together to
improve the integration of these EDA tools with our new Quartus II
development software to provide the best system-on-a-programmable-chip
design experience for Altera customers.''
``The Excalibur embedded processor solutions and the APEX 20KC
devices from Altera begin a new era in programmable logic devices,''
said Alex Gargarita, director of marketing for LeonardoSpectrum at
Mentor Graphics. ``Exemplar, in close collaboration with Altera, has
enhanced our FAST (FPGA Architecture Specific Technology) algorithm in
LeonardoSpectrum to take full advantage of these new architectures for
the benefit of our mutual customers.''
``The Synplify product integrates seamlessly with Altera's advanced
Quartus II development software and produces excellent results for the
APEX device families and the Excalibur embedded processor solutions,''
said Jeff Garrison, director of programmable products at Synplicity
Inc. ``We have noticed significant compile time improvements with the
Quartus II development software, which when combined with our
high-speed Synplify software, provides industry-leading productivity
for our customers.''
``Synposys FPGA Express OEM version 3.5.1 includes support for
Altera's latest products, including Altera's new Excalibur embedded
processor solutions and the APEX 20KC family of devices and works in a
tight flow with Altera's innovative new Quartus II development
software,'' said Jackie Patterson, director of FPGA marketing at
Synposys. ``As a result of close cooperation between Altera and
Synopsys, the version 3.5.1 release of FPGA Express and FPGA Compiler
II includes several features to ensure high performance quality of
results (QoR) in the diverse applications using the latest Altera
architectures. For example, Synopsys' advanced algorithms
significantly reduce the logic needed to implement constant
coefficient multipliers.''
``ModelSim provides Altera customers with leading-edge simulation
performance, behavioral, RTL, and gate-level simulation capability,
and a powerful debug environment on all of today's popular platforms,''
said John Lenyo, director of marketing for Model Technology. ``All of
our standard products along with the ModelSim Altera Version,
available directly from Altera, can be used with the new Quartus II
development software to develop designs for the complete Altera
product line, including the new Excalibur embedded processor solutions
and APEX 20KC devices.''
